PSG and Parma are reported to have already reached an agreement a few days ago for a 35 million euro transfer fee for the Japanese goalkeeper. What’s holding up the official announcement is the second part of the deal, which involves Suzuki’s subsequent dry loan to Juventus for one season—a solution that the French side also favors.
The path that has brought Juventus to this point has not been a straightforward one. In recent weeks, the Bianconeri had explored various avenues to strengthen their goalkeeping position: with the Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez option definitively off the table—as Aston Villa consistently stood its ground by demanding a fee deemed excessive— and with the possibility of signing Mile Svilar—considered unsellable by Roma after they rejected a €40 million offer—also having faded, the front office gradually focused its efforts on Suzuki and Vicario as top priorities.
Suzuki’s own initial reservations also played a role in the timing. His doubts did not concern the move to Juventus, but rather the specific terms chosen for the transfer. It was reportedly explained to the player that the loan does not represent a lack of confidence in him, but rather addresses Juventus’s financial needs and PSG’s technical requirements. The Parisian club could thus sign Suzuki in a year’s time, after resolving Chevalier’s situation in the meantime.
The situation became even more complicated when, in recent days, rumors leaked from French sources suggesting that Luis Enrique was considering immediately promoting Suzuki as Safonov’s backup, while simultaneously selling Chevalier, who is in high demand in the Premier League. This possibility had thrown Juventus’ plans into disarray and greatly irritated Luciano Spalletti, who would have liked to have the new number one already on the team.
Juventus wants to reach a final decision quickly, and in the last few hours, new contact was expected with the goalkeeper’s representatives to resolve any remaining doubts. Guglielmo Vicario remains a possibility in the background: a loan deal with an option to buy set at 15 million has reportedly already been arranged with Tottenham. The path leading to Anatoliy Trubin, however, is more complicated, given the 25 million demanded by Benfica.
