The NBA is in mourning; Paul Snyder has died

The NBA world is mourning the passing of Paul Snyder, owner of the Buffalo Braves from 1971 to 1977. His daughter Janet announced his death—he passed away at the age of 94—on social media.

Paul Snyder was an American entrepreneur from Buffalo, best known for owning the NBA’s Buffalo Braves. Born and raised in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, he attended the University of Alfred and the University at Buffalo, where he played American football and wrestled.

During his business career, he founded the frozen food company Freezer Queen in 1958 and established the Darien Lake theme park in 1964, developing it until its sale in 1983. In 1971, he purchased the Buffalo Braves, a team with which he achieved significant athletic milestones and won numerous games during the league’s expansion era before selling the franchise in 1977.

In the 1990s, he owned the Buffalo Hyatt Regency hotel and opened the renowned EB Green’s Steakhouse within it.
