Tragedy for Loveth Omoruyi: Serious Injury for the Italian National Team Player

Tragedy for Loveth Omoruyi: the Italian Volleyball Federation has released an update on the condition of the Italian national team’s outside hitter, who was injured during Wednesday night’s match against Ukraine. The player has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee and will require surgery.

“Following the injury sustained last night during the Italy-Ukraine match—part of the second day of the Agata Mróz-Olszewska Memorial in Koszalin—Loveth Omoruyi underwent diagnostic tests this morning that revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee. The athlete will need to undergo surgery,” according to a statement from the Federation.

Federation President Giuseppe Manfredi spoke on behalf of the entire Federation regarding the Italian player’s injury: “We are very sorry about what happened to Loveth last night. We stand by her during this difficult time and will provide her with our full support as she navigates this challenge. As always, the Federation will stand by the player’s club with the utmost willingness and support.”

Loveth Omoruyi, born in Lodi in 2002, an outside hitter for Megavolley Vallefoglia, has been a member of the senior national team since 2021. She was part of the extraordinary team that won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2025 World Championship in Thailand. The injury will keep her out of the European Championships and also the first part of next season.
