Sampdoria Transfer Market: Attempt to Sign One of Frosinone’s Key Players from Their Promotion-Winning Squad

Sampdoria, which—after several difficult seasons—wants to make its mark again in Serie B and, ideally, compete for promotion to Serie A, has set its sights on Giacomo Calò, one of the key players behind Frosinone’s promotion. The midfielder, born in 1997 and under contract with Frosinone through 2029, is considered an ideal fit to add experience and quality to Sampdoria’s midfield.

Calò is coming off a particularly brilliant season, which he finished with 10 goals and 15 assists—numbers that demonstrate his ability not only to build plays but also to make an impact in the final third. Sampdoria is expected to try to speed up negotiations after the mid-August weekend, also considering their Coppa Italia match scheduled for Monday evening in Bolzano against Cremonese.

The deal, however, is not expected to be straightforward. In Frosinone, the prospect of losing one of last season’s most important players is not being met with enthusiasm, particularly by head coach Massimiliano Alvini. However, Calò’s own past—having come up through Sampdoria’s youth system between 2012 and 2016—could work in the Blucerchiati’s favor.

This negotiation is taking place as Sampdoria carefully builds its roster ahead of a season that promises to be ambitious. Head coach Bernardo Corradi, who has already stated his intention to give his all to bring the club back to the top, has a roster that is taking shape game by game. Last regular season, the Blucerchiati finished with 40 points, well outside the promotion zone, but management has been working intensively in the transfer market to close the gap with the top teams.
