Milan Transfer Market: Farioli Weighs In: “Gimenez? He’s not the only one…”
Porto coach Francesco Farioli was also asked about the transfer market following his team’s 2-0 victory over Rio Ave in Vila do Conde on the second matchday of the league season. Among the players linked to the Dragões is Santiago Giménez, a Mexican forward for Milan.
“It’s not just about Santiago Giménez, who is a Milan player. Every day I read a lot of news, rumors, and comments in the papers that don’t always correspond to reality. It’s part of the transfer market. Everyone has a role to play, from coaches to players, including executives and clubs. Many names continue to circulate, but not everything that’s reported is true,” stated the Tuscan coach.
Yet negotiations between Milan and Porto for Giménez appear to be at an advanced stage. According to rumors circulating in recent hours, the two clubs have reached a preliminary agreement based on a loan with an option to buy set at around 20 million euros. The Mexican forward, who has been a major disappointment in the Rossoneri jersey, is reportedly ready to pack his bags after a year and a half in Italy.
The Giménez deal is intertwined with another negotiation directly involving Porto: the one for Rodrigo Mora. The young Portuguese attacking midfielder, born in 2007—one of the brightest talents in European soccer—has been at the center of a tug-of-war between the Dragões and Roma for weeks. According to rumors, the Portuguese club needs to generate revenue from Mora’s sale precisely to finance the purchase of Giménez from Milan.
However, negotiations between Roma and Porto over Mora have become complicated in recent hours. The Giallorossi have proposed a loan deal with a fee of 7–8 million euros and an option to buy for around 40–43 million, while Porto continues to demand more solid guarantees that would make the player’s permanent transfer virtually automatic—a condition Roma is unwilling to accept. Jorge Mendes is working to find common ground between the parties.
Further complicating the situation are the tensions that have emerged between Mora’s entourage and Farioli himself. Luis Miguel Henrique, the lawyer representing the player, has publicly claimed that the Portuguese talent has become the coach’s third choice—a statement that provoked a harsh reaction from the Tuscan coach: “Whoever said he could be my third choice has never spoken to me. This doesn’t help anyone.” A rift that, if not resolved, could open up unexpected scenarios, with Milan having begun in recent hours to closely monitor the young Portuguese player’s situation as a potential transfer target.
