Juventus Transfer Market: Blockbuster Trade with Atlético Madrid—David Says Yes

Progress has been made in the ambitious transfer negotiations between Juventus and Atlético Madrid, which could heat up the final days of the summer transfer window. After rejecting virtually all the offers he received, Jonathan David is reportedly open to a move to Spain’s La Liga, to join Diego Pablo Simeone’s team.

According to rumors, Atlético Madrid has made an inquiry about the Canadian forward—who is completely out of Luciano Spalletti’s plans—and the former Lille player has reportedly responded positively, agreeing to a possible transfer to the Colchoneros.

The deal, which is still in its early stages, could thus move forward in the coming days: as is well known, Juventus is very keen on signing Atlético’s Alexander Sorloth. Spalletti has long identified the Norwegian striker as the ideal player to bolster the attack (Kolo Muani isn’t enough for the Tuscan coach), but so far, the Old Lady has been stalling because it’s struggling to offload players.

David’s willingness to leave could change everything: the North American could head to Spain and make room for Sorloth in a blockbuster trade that would benefit both clubs. Simeone might also be interested in Nico Gonzalez again: the Argentine doesn’t want to stay in Turin and dreams of a return to Madrid, but for now, the deal is at a standstill. The Sorloth-David swap could also break the deadlock on this deal.

After the lackluster performance against Frosinone, Spalletti was explicit: “We’re looking for a striker with different characteristics, because there are games that are decided in the final twenty minutes, and it’s easier to score with a header when defenses close in.” Juventus also continues to monitor the possibility of signing Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United, with the Red Devils willing to let him go on loan but with a mandatory buyout clause included in the agreement: a viable alternative, even if the Dutchman doesn’t fully fit the profile of the physical, box-to-box striker sought by the Tuscan coach.
