Padua Transfer Market: Cagliari Offers an Alternative to Gabriele Artistico
Padova, which got off to a great start in the Serie B season (with a stunning away win at Pisa thanks to a goal by Fusi), is waiting for a response from Gabriele Artistico, but the wait is starting to drag on. The 24-year-old, who has returned to Lazio after his loan stint at Spezia—where he scored 13 goals without any penalties—continues to weigh his options despite the agreement already reached between the two clubs. The forward has attracted interest from several teams, which is why he has not yet made up his mind.
His chances of securing playing time at Lazio, however, have dwindled further with the arrival of Pinamonti. Faced with Artistico’s hesitation, Padova has therefore begun to explore alternative options and has initiated initial talks with Cagliari regarding Gennaro Borrelli.
Borrelli, a forward born in 2000, made 29 appearances last season in Serie A with Cagliari, scoring six goals and proving himself capable of making an impact in decisive moments. His two-goal performance in the dramatic 3-3 draw against Genoa at the Unipol Domus was particularly memorable: he scored first with a header off a corner kick and then with a decisive strike after dribbling past two defenders. Also worth noting is the goal he scored at San Siro in Cagliari’s 2-1 victory over Milan on the final day of the season—a goal that cost the Rossoneri their Champions League qualification. His skills and performance have not gone unnoticed in Serie B, so much so that several second-division clubs are reportedly interested in the player.
It is no coincidence, then, that Padova is not the only suitor: in recent weeks, Modena had also tested the waters for Borrelli, with sporting director Nereo Bonato on the hunt for offensive reinforcements. The competition could therefore complicate the Biancoscudati’s plans, and they will need to speed things up if they truly want to close the deal.
The Biancoscudati’s next match, scheduled for August 29, will be the Veneto derby against Hellas Verona, which is coming off a home loss to Ascoli in its season opener: a match that makes it even more urgent for the Padua-based club to complete its roster with a quality forward.
