Milan Transfer Market: Massimiliano Allegri Takes a Risk for a Transfer Target

With the arrival of Ruben Amorim, Milan has taken on a new look: the young Portuguese coach wants a very offensive team that’s decidedly more proactive than the one seen last season under Massimiliano Allegri. Gerry Cardinale, who personally selected Amorim, is placing his full trust in his new coach, as evidenced by the significant investments made in the transfer market.

According to Amorim, however, one piece is still missing from his Milan squad: a technical attacking midfielder capable of drifting out wide. The Rossoneri coach has identified Harvey Elliott as the ideal fit: the Liverpool player, who had a lackluster season on loan at Aston Villa, started out as an attacking midfielder but loves to drift wide—especially to the right—to add unpredictability to the attack. Born in 2003, Elliott has fallen out of favor at Liverpool, and his contract is set to expire in less than 12 months: the Reds want to sell him.

In recent hours, however, Massimiliano Allegri’s Napoli has also set its sights on the English talent, and Aurelio De Laurentiis has already spoken with Giovanni Manna to gauge the room for maneuver. The Rossoneri are aware of the Neapolitans’ interest and may move quickly: in this regard, Rafael Leao’s departure will be crucial.

The Portuguese winger is on his way out, with Galatasaray and Aston Villa both interested in him. The Premier League is a very strong draw, but the Turkish club is offering him 12 million euros a year (about 4 million more than Aston Villa), and as we speak, representatives from both teams are in contact with the former Lille player’s entourage.
