Diego Abatantuono “betrays” Milan: “Here’s which team I root for now”
Milan VIP fan Diego Abatantuono reiterated in an interview with *La Gazzetta dello Sport* that he no longer supports the Rossoneri and has switched teams. “I don’t like this Milan; the only thing Cardinale has in common with Berlusconi is the helicopter. Period. For now, I don’t see any other similarities, but I’m open to being proven wrong and apologizing. I mean, I probably won’t apologize—it’s not like I’m saying anything major.”
“An investment fund looks out for shareholders’ interests, but the team belongs to the fans. Back in the day, there were presidents who were also passionate fans: Berlusconi, Moratti… It was a different way of running a soccer club. I’ve never seen Cardinale or Ibrahimovic act in Milan’s best interests; I realized that when they fired Pioli and Maldini. From that moment on, corporate types took over—maybe even competent ones—but they were people who played along; they knew they’d only be there for a year or so.”
“I’d never even heard of this Amorim in my life. But not out of malice—simply because I’m not a journalist and I only know the most famous ones. Ramos has arrived from PSG and has even scored already; he should be good, even though he was on the bench there. Let’s see how they perform over the course of the season; at that point, I’ll make my own assessment.”
Abatantuono revealed who he roots for now: “Como. I’ve been a fan of theirs for a couple of years now. I like their style of play, I like the coach, and the president is mega-rich—and that’s fine by me. If all the rich people shared a little, we’d be set. If they have 100 billion, let them throw 50 billion around. You can do that by building hospitals, schools, or by making the fans happy. That’s what they’re doing in Como. People say, ‘Well, the president’s rolling in cash, so it’s easy for him.’ But what do I care? I’m the one who goes to watch the game and wants to have fun. I didn’t know the players, but clearly there’s a solid organization behind the scenes.”
