Alessandro Bastoni’s future is becoming clearer after Inter’s scudetto. The Nerazzurri defender has been approached for months by Barcelona, especially after the simulation controversy following the match against Juventus, which led him to be the most booed player in Serie A in recent times. Bastoni himself had thought of farewell, but now the turning point seems to have arrived: the defender’s stay in the Beneamata is almost certain.

The warmth of the fans during the Scudetto celebration would have made the Azzurri national change his mind, and important news has also arrived from Catalonia: the Blaugrana would be oriented to abandon the road for his signing. According to Diario Sport, coach Flick has decided to take a central defender with different characteristics than Bastoni’s, and Barcelona also considered the €70 million request made by Nerazzurri president Beppe Marotta to be excessive.

Already at the beginning of May, Marotta had spoken openly about the defender’s future at the microphones of Radio Anch’Io Sport: “Bastoni is a talent, he was unlucky in certain episodes. He is a great champion, there are the eyes of big clubs on him and I do not hide that of Barcelona. But it is an unofficial and not concrete interest, he is our player and he wants to stay. We are happy.” Also on the same line was sporting director Piero Ausilio, who had cut a long story short: “Bastoni has a contract with Inter and there are no situations such as to suggest that Bastoni is far from Inter. If anyone is interested in him, call us, they know our phone numbers, and don’t talk.”

Bastoni’s future was also commented on by Beppe Bergomi, the former Nerazzurri captain, in an interview with La Repubblica: “In addition to the physical troubles, he suffered an unjustified public pillory. He made a mistake, but he has taken responsibility. It will depend on the offers whether he stays or not. He has great value, you cannot sell him off.”
