Italy’s repechage to the World Cup: Ebola also adds to the chaos

Mexican health authorities have turned the spotlight on the possible risk that the Ebola epidemic could arrive in the country during the World Cup, considering that one of the DRC’s competitions will be played in Mexico itself, a nation that by the way had also offered to host Iran’s matches: an issue that has not yet been resolved and which allows Italy to still have a hope, albeit infinitesimal, of playing in the rainbow review.
Health Minister David Kershenobich explained that he has already issued an epidemiological alert to all health facilities, assuring that a constant monitoring system remains in place to detect any imported cases.
In the meantime, infectiologist Francisco Moreno has proposed even stricter measures: a 21-day quarantine for Congolese players, equal to the maximum incubation period of the virus, and a ban on fans from the Democratic Republic of Congo entering the country. According to Moreno, these are strict but necessary measures to avoid health risks, reminding how dangerous such viral infections can become if underestimated.
The Congolese selection will play against Colombia on June 23 in Guadalajara, while the other two group challenges will be played in the United States: on June 17 against Portugal in Houston and on June 27 against Uzbekistan in Atlanta.
