What was supposed to be a weekend dedicated to a passion for motorcycles turned into a tragedy. At the Brno circuit, during the Alpe Adria International Motorcycle Championship, two riders lost their lives following a dramatic crash. The victims are Philipp Steinmayr of Austria, born in 1993, and Adrian Rus of Romania, born in 1982. Both were born in August and would have turned 33 and 44, respectively, next month.

In the first case, emergency responders were unable to save him, as his injuries proved immediately fatal. Rus, on the other hand, was rushed to the hospital, where he died shortly after being admitted. According to accounts reported by various media outlets, the accident occurred during the early stages of the race for the Stock 1000 and Superbike classes.

Steinmayr was reportedly forced to stop on the track due to a technical problem. Moments later, he was struck by Rus’s motorcycle, which was approaching from the back of the pack and did not have enough time to avoid the collision. Following this tragic incident, the organizers decided to cancel all activities scheduled for the rest of the weekend.

In a joint statement, FIM Europe, the Alpe Adria Motorcycle Union, AAcademye, and Automotodrom Brno expressed their deepest condolences, extending their thoughts “to the families, friends, teams, and everyone close to the two riders who have passed away”. The statement emphasizes that this is “a grief that transcends borders and categories, a loss that affects everyone who experiences motorcycling not only as a competition, but as a community.”
