Tragedy at Mugello: Clive Somerfield Has Died

British motorcycle rider Clive Somerfield died following an accident that occurred during free practice sessions organized by No Limits Trackdays, which took place last Thursday at the Tuscan track. He was 69 years old.

According to a statement from No Limits Trackdays, the accident was caused by oil on the track surface, which leaked from a motorcycle following a technical issue. “The oil on the track caught several following riders by surprise, causing a series of crashes. It is with deep sadness that we confirm the loss of a rider following an accident at the Mugello Circuit during our European track day.”

“We have lost a member of our community, and there are no words sufficient to express the grief we feel alongside those who loved him. Our immediate priority remains the well-being of the family, the riders involved, and anyone affected by this terrible news. We are providing support to all those who need it and will continue to do so in the days and weeks ahead.”

Prosecutors are investigating the tragedy to determine whether there was negligence in warning of the danger or in the racetrack’s internal emergency response.
