Coppa Italia: Cremonese Pulls Off a Stunning Victory in Parma; Monza Knocks Out Torino After a VAR Review

Two away wins in the Coppa Italia Round of 32 matches played on Tuesday night. Cremonese defeated Parma 2-0 on the road at the Tardini and advanced to the round of 16, where they will face Como; in the other match, Monza defeated Torino 1-0 and will face Milan in the next round.

Cremonese pulled off a surprise victory over Cuesta’s team thanks to goals by Lottici Tessadri and Licina. Giampaolo’s Grigiorossi got off to a blistering start, scoring immediately in the 5th minute when the Cremonese midfielder—sent through from deep—made no mistake in front of Daffara. In the 41st minute, the Serie B side doubled their lead with a splendid left-footed chip by 19-year-old Licina, on loan from Juventus. The Crociati tried to get back into the game several times but were unsuccessful.

At the Olimpico Grande Torino, Monza managed to secure a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal by Dany Mota. The Granata had the better start, with Oristanio hitting the post early on. Then the Brianza-based team began to play more aggressively and tested Torino’s debutant goalkeeper, Lucas Perri, on several occasions. In the 33rd minute, Monza was awarded a penalty for a foul by Fortini, which was later overturned after a VAR review due to a prior offside call. But the visitors kept pressing, and after hitting the crossbar in the 42nd minute, Dany Mota scored just before halftime with a first-time volley off a cross from Forson.

In the second half, Torino continued to struggle; Mangas came close to doubling the lead on two occasions, and Robinson hit the post again in the 73rd minute. In the 78th minute, Torino had a chance through Zapata, who fired a right-footed shot wide from an excellent position. In the closing minutes, the home team failed to create any further danger, and it was Monza who nearly scored a second goal through Cutrone, whose shot was well saved by Perri. A VAR incident occurred in stoppage time: in the 94th minute, a penalty was awarded for a handball by Lucchesi in the box on Adams’s shot-cross, but the call was overturned after a VAR review. At the final whistle, Monza held the lead.
