Inter Transfer News: Lautaro Martinez Speaks Candidly About Barcelona

Coming in August like a bolt from the blue, Barcelona’s offer for Lautaro Martinez had thrown Inter into turmoil, but the Nerazzurri club was unwilling to let go of its captain, who—as was definitively confirmed at the close of the summer transfer window—will continue to wear the jersey of the “Beneamata.” On the sidelines of the Gran Galà del Calcio at La Scala in Milan, the Argentine spoke firsthand about those rather turbulent days.

“Barcelona’s interest is something that pleases me—I can’t help but say it,” he told Sky Sport. “Deep down, though, the situation is already settled: my life, right now, is in Milan. I chose to stay at Inter because I’m happy here, I feel valued, and I still have a strong desire to improve.”

The Nerazzurri’s new season has begun with the same ambitions as always: to maintain their position in Italy and return to the top in Europe. “We’ve embarked on a new journey with different faces,” said Lautaro, “ some teammates who had been with us for many years have chosen to move on, and I want to thank them once again for everything they’ve shared with this group. We, however, are continuing on the same path, with the same mindset and the same ambition: to keep winning, growing, and always pushing our limits a little further.”

Born in 1997, Lautaro Martinez has been with Inter since the 2018–2019 season: with the Nerazzurri, he has won three Scudetti, three Coppa Italia titles, and three Italian Super Cups. He has also appeared in three European finals, all of which ended in disappointment for him: in 2020 in the Europa League against Sevilla, and in 2023 and 2025 in the Champions League against Manchester City and PSG, respectively. With the Argentine national team, he won the 2022 World Cup and two Copa América titles, in 2021 and 2024.
