Milan Transfer Market: A Battle with Lazio and Torino for a Top Free Agent

Despite Fikayo Tomori’s return, Milan is looking for a defender to add depth to Ruben Amorim’s back line. In recent weeks, there has been a great deal of talk about Gonçalo Inácio, but the center back remained at Sporting, and Ruben Dias—who was scouted by the Rossoneri but ruled out due to extremely high transfer and salary costs—did not join either.

With the transfer window closed, the only hope left for the Rossoneri is to look among free agents, and one name stands out above all others: Diogo Leite. The center back, who has been without a team since his stint at Union Berlin, is among the best players still on the market, but the feeling is that he’ll find a new home very soon.

Ruben Amorim would be more than happy to bring him to Milan, but Lazio and Torino are also monitoring the situation with interest. The Biancocelesti need to fill the void left by Alessio Romagnoli, who has moved to Al-Sadd where he will earn approximately 20 million euros through 2030, while the Granata would be happy to add more experience to their back line.

Abroad, the main competition comes from Germany: Schalke 04 and Borussia Mönchengladbach have already had some contact with Leite’s representatives but have not yet submitted an official offer. There is still room for maneuver for Italian clubs, but they will need to move quickly to avoid missing out.

In the transfer window that just closed, Milan signed five new players: Gonçalo Ramos, from Paris Saint-Germain for 74 million euros, Diego Moreira from Strasbourg for 50 million euros, Mario Gila from Lazio for 30 million euros, Omari Hutchinson on loan with an option to buy from Nottingham Forest, and Sankhoun Diawara, who arrived from Troyes for 2 million euros.
