It’s already time for early matches in La Liga, with Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo set to face off on Thursday at 9 p.m. in a match for the sixth round of Spain’s top division: The two clubs, along with La Liga officials, requested and were granted permission to move the match up to accommodate their respective scheduling needs, as both are competing in the Europa League and preferred to avoid a postponement to a later date in an increasingly packed schedule.

Real Sociedad began the season with two losses—a 1-0 defeat at Betis and a 4-1 loss at the “Bernabéu” against Real Madrid— celebrating their first three points in front of their home crowd at Anoeta Stadium, defeating Espanyol 2-1 with goals for the Basque club scored by local hero Barrenetxea and Iceland’s Oskarsson. The Basques will face Juventus in the Europa League; however, the match scheduled at the Stadium won’t take place until January 28, 2027.

On the other hand, Celta has had a terrible start to the season: their only point came in the opener against Valencia, the result of a lackluster 0-0 draw, followed by home losses to Osasuna (2-1, with a goal for the Galicians by Iago Aspas) and Athletic Bilbao (who won 2-0 at the Estadio de Balaidos). Interestingly, Celta will also face Juventus in the Europa League in just over a month: the match between the two teams is scheduled for October 15 in Vigo.
