Concerns for Dylan Groenewegen: Accident During Training

It was a big scare, but fortunately, there were no serious consequences: in a post published on his social media channels, Dutch cyclist Dylan Groenewegen, who currently rides for the Unibet Rose Rockets team, recounted having an accident with a motorcycle while training on a public road.

“Unfortunately, my training session ended with an accident,” wrote the Dutch rider. “I was involved in a collision with a motorcyclist and suffered a muscle strain in my rib area. Fortunately, I got off without any serious consequences; I feel lucky that it didn’t turn out worse.”

“I can still ride my bike,” Groenewegen added, “though the pain in my ribs makes it hard to say how this injury will affect my race schedule. We’ll monitor how it progresses and assess the situation accordingly. In any case, it could have been much worse; I’m grateful to have come out of the accident with relatively minor injuries. Once again, a reminder: always wear a helmet! Thank you all for your messages and support.”

Born in 1993, Dylan Groenewegen—a specialist in bunch sprints—has won six stages at the Tour de France, the most recent of which was on July 4, 2024, at the finish line in Dijon. Among the other major races won by the Dutch rider are two national road race titles, won eight years apart—first in 2016 and then in 2024.
