Palermo Faces Double Fine; Avellino, Modena, and Arezzo Also Face Penalties

The Serie B Disciplinary Committee, led by attorney Emilio Battaglia, has imposed fines totaling 18,000 euros on clubs and players based on an analysis of the match reports from the ten league games played last weekend. Palermo received two fines, while Avellino, Modena, and Arezzo were also penalized. Below are the reasons for each sanction, as reported in the statement released by Lega B:

“Fine of €4,000.00: imposed on AVELLINO, on the grounds of strict liability, for unjustifiably delaying the start of the first half by approximately four minutes.”

“A fine of €4,000.00: imposed on MODENA, on the grounds of strict liability, for unjustifiably delaying the start of the first half by approximately four minutes.”

“A fine of €4,000.00: imposed on PALERMO for its supporters having thrown a small glass bottle and two small plastic bottles onto the field of play at the 10th minute of the first half; penalty reduced pursuant to Art. 29, paragraph 1, letter b) of the CGS.”

“Fine of €3,000.00: imposed on AREZZO for its supporters having thrown three smoke bombs onto the field during the match; penalty reduced pursuant to Art. 29, paragraph 1, letter b) of the CGS.”

“Fine of €2,000.00: imposed on PALERMO, on the grounds of strict liability, for having unjustifiably caused a delay of approximately two minutes in the start of the second half.”

A player, Mattia Maita of Benevento, was also fined: 1,000 euros for the yellow card he received in the match against Ascoli, as he was the team captain. As for suspensions, the Disciplinary Committee suspended Julian Illanes of Arezzo for one match “for committing a foul on an opponent who had a clear scoring opportunity,” and Antonio Prisco of Benevento, for “two yellow cards for unsportsmanlike conduct toward an opponent and for unsportsmanlike behavior on the field.”

Two coaches were also suspended: Massimo Mutarelli, Sampdoria’s assistant coach, “for having, in the 23rd minute of the second half, left the technical area to openly contest a referee’s decision; an infraction noted by the fourth official,” and Riccardo Saponara, technical staff member for Modena, “for having, in the 35th minute of the first half, risen from the supplementary bench and disrespectfully contested the referee’s decision.”
