The time has finally come for Holger Rune, who, after being sidelined for nearly a year due to a torn Achilles tendon, has now recovered and is set to return to the court: his stated goal is to climb back up the rankings as quickly as possible, make up for lost time, and be able to challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz once again.

Speaking specifically about the two top players on the tour, the Danish athlete drew a comparison in an interview with former world No. 1 Jim Courier on the official ATP Tour channel: “Is playing against them like facing a forehand from both sides of the court? Against Jannik, yes, but with Carlos it’s not the same.”

“Carlos has different qualities; you have to be very aware of his forehand and his unforced errors. To beat him, you have to play at your own pace and be very quick, especially when he tries drop shots. The way he manages to put spin on his forehand and force his opponent to move around a lot is incredible.”

“As for Jannik, he’s simply an unstoppable force. The way he hits the ball from both sides of the court is insane. I trained with him in June in Monte Carlo, and he makes everything look so simple. He drives the ball, hits powerful shots, generates topspin, and has an extremely precise serve. He’s simply fantastic at everything. Right now, he’s better than anyone else at what he does.”

Rune also tried to explain how Novak Djokovic still manages to stay competitive: “It’s really impressive because he’s rock-solid on the return, his serve is incredibly precise, and when he plays so aggressively from the baseline, he’s devastating.”
