US Open: Bolelli and Vavassori Overcome Fatigue, Advance to the Quarterfinals with a Great Comeback

Bolelli and Vavassori never give up. They proved it once again in the highly tense US Open round of 16 against the seasoned duo of Krajicek and Mektic. The Italian pair won the match at the end of a true marathon that lasted over three hours of play.
After losing the first set (4-6), the Italians didn’t lose heart and turned the tables, going on to win the next two sets: 7-6(5), 7-6(8). For the Italian duo, this marks yet another comeback in a season in which they’ve proven they never even consider the possibility of defeat.
Bolelli and Vavassori will return to the court tonight to face Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski, the pair who won the Australian Open. At stake is a spot in the US Open semifinals.
Bolelli and Vavassori had never reached the quarterfinals at the US Open in their careers. As the saying goes, “appetite comes with eating.” Moreover, we’re talking about a duo that refuses to throw in the towel, even when defeat seems inevitable.
