Como made its Champions League debut with a spectacular 4-1 victory over Leipzig, sending a message to everyone. Cesc Fàbregas’s team found the back of the net through Baturina, Douvikas, Diao, and Perrone, but Nico Paz also played a key role with two decisive assists against the Germans.

In the Sky studios after the game, however, Fabio Capello took the Argentine playmaker to task: he expected more from him. “I enjoy watching Como; they play an attacking style, but Nico Paz—who will be among the best in the world—isn’t yet in top physical condition; he lacks that fluidity of movement he shows when he’s at his best. Tonight he played at 75% of his potential.”

Don Fabio addressed the player directly via video link: “When you don’t play exceptionally well, I’m not happy. Tonight you had a game that wasn’t up to your usual standard despite the two assists; you can give even more.” Paz responded: “It was a tough game; there was always a defender on me, and it wasn’t easy because I didn’t get many passes. At the end of the game, I even helped out on defense: I don’t know where I found the energy, but I defended as long as I could.”

Capello, on the other hand, praised Assane Diao, who has had a stellar start to the season: “His style reminds me of Leao, although technically I think he’s even better than the former Milan player.”
