Rome’s Olympic Stadium is gearing up to host a top-of-the-table clash between Lazio and Milan: The Biancocelesti are among the top teams in the standings with a perfect record, alongside their “cousins,” the Giallorossi, and Inter, while the Rossoneri trail by two points, tied for fourth place with Como and Juventus. The teams take the field at 6:00 p.m., with Matteo Marcenaro of the Genoa Referee Association officiating the match.

Lazio, which had gotten off to a terrible start to the season with a Coppa Italia loss to Mantova, has turned things around in the first three league matchdays, narrowly defeating Bologna on the road (1-0), Genoa at home (another 1-0), and Udinese in their second away game of the season (2-1). Protests by organized fan groups are weighing on attendance at the Olimpico, but Gennaro Gattuso (a star former player facing the “Diavolo”) and his men aim to boost enthusiasm through their results.

Milan, which had delivered a mixed performance in its summer friendlies, kicked off the league season with a 2-1 win over Torino and a 2-0 victory over Venezia, before drawing 1-1 in last week’s big match against Juventus. The build-up was marked by controversy over the roles of Luka Modric and Christian Pulisic, although head coach Ruben Amorim tried to calm the situation, explaining that the team’s concurrent Europa League campaign (which kicks off next Thursday at San Siro against Benfica) will allow everyone to find their place in the lineup.

Probable Lineups

LAZIO (4-3-3): Mandas; Floriani Mussolini, Doekhi, Provstgaard, Nuno Tavares; Frattesi, Belahyane, Taylor; Isaksen, Pinamonti, Zaccagni. Coach: Gattuso.

MILAN (3-4-2-1): Maignan; Gila, De Winter, Pavlovic; Chukwueze, Musah, Modric, Estupiñan; Rabiot, Cissé; Ramos. Coach: Amorim.
