Moreira Saves Milan; Lazio Comes Back to Tie 2-2, but Milan Remains Sole Leader

Milan pulled off a comeback draw at Lazio, tying the game 2-2 after trailing 2-0 at halftime. The first half was a nightmare for the Rossoneri, and especially for Pervis Estupiñan. The Milan winger lost track of Cancellieri on the play that broke the deadlock and was also responsible for Lazio’s second goal. His substitution was almost inevitable at that point; Amorim replaced him with Moreira at the start of the second half, and it was no coincidence that Moreira scored both goals that allowed the Rossoneri to tie the game between the 65th and 67th minutes.

On social media, Milan fans lashed out at Estupiñan, whom some even called “an insult to soccer.” And more: “He can’t play at this level,” “He’s so consistent—he keeps making the same mistakes over and over,” “He could’ve easily caught a flight to Birmingham in July, but here he is on the field, and it’s pitiful,” “He looks like a player who belongs in the lower leagues.”

Amorim also found himself in the crosshairs of Rossoneri haters for deciding to stick with a player who was all but destined for Aston Villa. However, Moreira’s goal early in the second half may have spelled the end of Estupiñan’s Italian stint, as he could very well be on his way out in January.

After the 2-2 draw, fatigue set in and the teams settled for a point each, with Gattuso’s team temporarily climbing to 10 points and sitting alone at the top of the standings, while Milan moved up to 8.
