Sofia Goggia fell ill during the training camp in Argentina and will undergo the necessary medical tests in Italy in the coming days. The Italian champion has therefore decided to cut short her training camp in Ushuaia, where she had been preparing for the upcoming winter season with the national alpine skiing team since August 23.

“Sofia Goggia has ended her training camp in Argentina early. The champion from Bergamo, who won the bronze medal in the Olympic downhill at Milan-Cortina 2026 and the Super-G World Cup last season, experienced health issues during her stay in Ushuaia, which began on August 23, and, in agreement with the FISI Medical Commission chaired by Dr. Andrea Panzeri, has decided to return to Italy to undergo the necessary medical examinations in the coming days,” reads the federation’s statement.

At this time, FISI has not provided further details on the nature of her illness. The medical examinations in the coming days will therefore clarify the skier’s condition and any potential effects on her training schedule ahead of the start of the season.

The Alpine Ski World Cup will resume in late October with the giant slalom in Sölden, Austria, scheduled for October 24, 2026, and will conclude on March 25, 2027, in Sun Valley, United States.

In the women’s competition, 40 races are scheduled across 20 stops: nine downhill races, nine super-G races, twelve giant slaloms, and ten slaloms. The 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships will also be held in Crans-Montana during the season. American Mikaela Shiffrin is the current overall World Cup champion.
