Sports Disciplinary Committee Hands Down Harsh Punishment to Aleksandar Kolarov. Two Clubs Fined, One Player Suspended

On Tuesday, the Serie A Disciplinary Committee, led by Gerardo Mastrandrea, issued its rulings following a review of the match reports from the fourth round of the league season, conducted with the assistance of Stefania Ginesio and AIA delegate Carlo Moretti. Among the players, there is only one suspension: that of Genoa’s Johan Vasquez, who was sent off for two yellow cards in the closing minutes of Friday night’s 1-1 draw against Frosinone.

There are, however, several entries in the fines section: Lecce will have to pay 8,000 euros “because its supporters, during the match, threw three firecrackers, three smoke bombs, and two small bottles,” while Torino must pay 3,000 euros “as a penalty for objective liability, for having unjustifiably caused a delay of approximately two minutes at the start of the first half.”

A 5,000-euro fine, in addition to a two-match suspension, was handed down to Aleksandar Kolarov, Cristian Chivu’s assistant coach at Inter. As reported in the Serie A League statement, the Serbian coach was punished “for directing disrespectful criticism toward the referee in the 19th minute of the first half” and “for also making a disrespectful remark to the same referee upon being sent off.”

Torino’s technical staff member Lucas Biglia, on the other hand, was suspended for one match, without a fine, “for having, in the 38th minute of the second half, openly contested a refereeing decision,” and Atalanta goalkeeper coach Massimo Nenci, “for having, in the 45th minute of the second half, vehemently contested a refereeing decision; the infraction was noted by the fourth official.”
