A sort of appeal is coming from Sofia Goggia’s countless fans—a buzz that’s gaining momentum especially on social media, a world the skiing champion knows inside and out but seems to have abandoned in recent days. To put it simply, “You’re making us worry” is the explicit message being sent to the Bergamo native, who, as is well known, returned well ahead of schedule from the Italian women’s ski team’s long training camp in South America.

The competitive season is fast approaching, but what matters most to Sofia’s supporters—and to ski fans in general—is that she makes her voice heard: No one intends to force the issue—that’s clear—but a sign from her would be greatly appreciated because, little by little, the tension—due to something unexpected—is mounting.

What makes the picture even more telling are the numbers behind her silence: her last Instagram post dates back to August 22, when Goggia announced Markus Gufler as her new ski technician, replacing the longtime Barnaba “Babi” Greppi, who had decided to retire. Since then, her Stories have also gradually become less frequent, until they stopped entirely in the last few hours. A complete silence that, for an athlete who is usually so active and lively on social media, inevitably raises eyebrows.

Framing this silence is the official statement in which FISI announced her early return: “Sofia Goggia has cut short her trip to Argentina.” The champion from Bergamo, winner of the bronze medal in the Olympic downhill at Milan-Cortina 2026 and of last season’s Super-G World Cup, experienced health issues during her stay in Ushuaia, which began on August 23, and, in agreement with the FISI Medical Commission chaired by Dr. Andrea Panzeri, she decided to return to Italy to undergo the necessary medical examinations in the coming days.” Since then, however, no further official communication has been issued to shed light on the situation.

What makes the situation even more surprising is that, until just a few days before her early return, there had been no indication that her schedule would be disrupted. Goggia had been training as usual, including in giant slalom, with no warning signs emerging. The original plan called for her to remain in Ushuaia until September 18, and then travel to La Parva, Chile, where her teammates—Elena Curtoni, Roberta Melesi, Sara Allemand, and the others—have since departed to complete their specific training for the speed disciplines.

There’s no shortage of news during this period regarding both the technical and personal aspects of the champion from Bergamo’s life. In addition to changing ski technicians, Goggia has entrusted her athletic training to Gianluca Rulfi following the end of her collaboration with Luca Agazzi, and she has concluded her work with the psychiatrist who had been supporting her in recent years. This series of significant changes marks the beginning of a new phase in her career and makes everyone’s anticipation for a statement from her—one that can reassure everyone about her health—even greater.

Meanwhile, the countdown to the season continues relentlessly: the World Cup will resume on October 24 with the giant slalom in Sölden, and the women’s calendar features 40 races across 20 stops, in addition to the World Championships in Crans-Montana scheduled for February 1–14, 2027. These are events that Sofia’s fans would love to see her compete in, but first and foremost, they need to know that she is well.
