Tragic Accident in Poland: 20-Year-Old Soccer Player Dies

The soccer world mourns the passing of Oskar Kordus, a very young Polish player who was just 20 years old. The young man was in a car driven by someone else on the road between Krajewice and Grabonóg when a deer ran across the road, causing the vehicle to swerve. The vehicle rolled over several times, and there was nothing that could be done to save Kordus.

The young man played for Kania Gostyn, a Polish fourth-division club that announced Kordus’s death: “It is with immense sadness and disbelief that we have learned of the death of our player, Oskar Kordus.”

“On behalf of the entire Kania Gostyn community, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Oskar’s family, loved ones, and all his friends. In these extremely difficult moments, we share in your grief and are with you in our thoughts and hearts. Rest in peace, Oskar,” reads the statement posted on Facebook.

The young man’s teammates and the entire Kania Gostyn management are in shock, and the match against ChKS Polonia Chodzież has been canceled: “We thank the club for the support, understanding, and willingness they have shown during this extremely difficult time for us,” wrote Kania Gostyn. “This gesture means the world to us.”

“At the same time, we would like to thank everyone who has offered words of sympathy to Oskar’s family and loved ones, as well as to our entire club community. Every message, every gesture of solidarity and remembrance is of fundamental importance to us.”

Oskar Kordus’s funeral will be held on Saturday, September 26, at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Piaski (approximately 340 kilometers from Warsaw). Following the Mass, a final farewell will take place at the nearby cemetery on Dworcowa Street.
