Cantù: Frank Vitucci immediately rouses his team and sets the record straight

The 2026–2027 season for Acqua S. Bernardo Cantù will tip off with a tip-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26. The team will face Reyer Venezia at the Taliercio—a team they already played in a friendly match on September 12— resulting in a decisive victory for the gold-and-orange team (final score 93-66). Frank Vitucci, the new head coach of the blue-and-white team, explained what he expects from this season opener during the pregame press conference, without beating around the bush.

“We’re excited from a sports perspective about the start of the season,” began the coach, who led Scafati to the A2 title last year. “We’re kicking things off against a strong team that just played in the Super Cup and put on some impressive performances. That’s why we’ll need to take the court with humility, pride, and a desire to do well, following a preseason that was shaky in terms of results.”

“What matters to us, however, is that the team is improving and comes into this league with the right mindset and the right attitude. We all—myself first and foremost, but also the entire organization, the club, and the fans—expect to see more: a team that must send very clear signals of improvement and compete in every game. Now the game begins, and so, when the five red lights go out, we have to get going right away, with immediate reactions,” concluded the coach, born in 1963.

For Vitucci, incidentally, this is a special matchup against the team from his hometown, where he served as assistant coach from 1986 to 1993 before taking over as head coach from 1993 to 1996. Vitucci returns to the top flight after his successful stint in Scafati: his last season in Serie A was 2024–2025, when he led Treviso to an 11th-place finish.
