F1: Problems for Kimi Antonelli in Free Practice 1 in Baku: Mercedes Stands Still

During Free Practice 1 of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli was forced to stop his Mercedes. After just a handful of laps, the car was “parked” in a run-off area of the track.
The World Championship leader had to stop his car due to hydraulic issues. This unexpected setback meant he was unable to get a feel for the Baku street circuit right from the first free practice session.
In short, the weekend in Baku is off to a rough start for the young Italian star, who is aiming to continue his quest for the Formula 1 World Championship title in Azerbaijan (he holds an 81-point lead over rival George Russell in the drivers’ standings).
It’s worth noting that the traditional schedule has been completely shaken up in Baku. The race will take place on Saturday, September 26, and, as a result, everything has been moved up by one day. Free Practice 1 and 2, in fact, have been scheduled for Thursday, a day usually set aside for the drivers’ media day.
