Juventus Transfer Market: A Move for a Defender at Genoa

Juventus is also looking to the future and is beginning to take steps to improve and rejuvenate its defense. Among the players drawing the most interest is Alessandro Marcandalli of Genoa. The defender, born in 2003, on whom Daniele De Rossi relies heavily, combines impressive physical stature with significant room for growth—qualities that have also caught the attention of several Premier League clubs. The excellent relationship between the Piedmontese and Ligurian clubs—strengthened by the Ekhator transfer completed in late June—could also facilitate the deal.
It must be said, however, that there is no shortage of competition. Cesc Fabregas’s Como had also added Marcandalli’s name to its summer shopping list as part of a strategy aimed at increasing the number of Italian players on the roster to comply with regulatory requirements regarding squad lists. That lead seems to have cooled off, but it shows just how highly the young defender is regarded as one of the most promising prospects in Italian soccer.
As for Genoa, their situation in the standings isn’t looking too bright: the Grifone have earned very few points in the first few rounds of Serie A, with De Rossi already under pressure after the team’s fourth loss in their first five games, which came at the hands of Parma at the Tardini.
Finally, it cannot be ruled out that Juventus might pursue multiple options simultaneously to strengthen their defense. According to reports in *La Gazzetta dello Sport*, the Bianconeri are also monitoring Virgil van Dijk, whose contract with Liverpool expires in June 2027: a free transfer that would bring experience and charisma, and would complement the addition of a young player like Marcandalli perfectly. Two complementary moves to build a solid backline for both the present and the future.
