Turin Transfer Market: Njie Reveals the Inside Story Behind His Departure

Alieu Njie spoke about his summer transfer to Fiorentina in an interview with Expressen. The former Torino forward had previously been very close to signing with several Premier League clubs, but Torino had rejected the offers because they were considered too low.
“It was a difficult decision because I wanted to leave Italy,” Njie admitted. “However, I felt that Fiorentina had made me a really excellent offer, so I couldn’t turn it down. There were moments when the deal seemed on the verge of being finalized, but Torino always rejected their offers. While I was on my way to Florence for my physical, Crystal Palace tried to step in at the last minute to derail the deal. But I made it clear right away that it would be Fiorentina or nothing.”
My first few months with the Viola have been positive: “I already feel at home, and we’re all young—that’s one of the main reasons I chose Fiorentina. The project they presented to me was very exciting: a young team with great talent and enormous potential. Paolo Vanoli’s presence on the bench also counted for a lot. It’s the ideal step for my development.”
“He was the one who gave me my Serie A debut; he was my coach when I scored my first goal in the top flight while playing for Torino. Being reunited with him is fantastic for my development. As I said, this is a team that focuses on young players. It almost seems like we’re all 21, 22, or 23 years old. Fiorentina was the best option for me, and I’m really happy.”
