Fiera Ice Arena: Milan Is Ready to Welcome Its New Hockey Team

Milano HC

Milan once again has a home for ice sports. The Fiera Ice Arena, inaugurated on October 1, will open to the public on Friday, marking an important milestone for the sports community in Milan and Lombardy. This modern, multipurpose facility—the result of a collaboration between local institutions and sports organizations—also represents one of the tangible legacies of the Milan-Cortina 2026 bid.

The facility, built thanks to an investment by Fondazione Fiera Milano and the joint efforts of the Italian Ice Sports Federation, the Lombardy Region, the City of Milan, and the City of Rho, was created with the goal of becoming a hub for ice sports. It’s not just about competitive sports and major events, but also youth programs, introductory courses, and opportunities to bring an ever-growing number of participants into the sport.

The Fiera Ice Arena, with a capacity of 4,000 spectators, is already ready to welcome the Milanese community. Starting with hockey—with Milano HC competing in the ICE Hockey League—but with a broader focus on nurturing the next generation and developing various ice sports disciplines.

“The opening of the Fiera Ice Arena represents an important milestone for the entire ice sports community and for the city of Milan. It is the result of great teamwork, carried out together with Fondazione Fiera Milano, the Lombardy Region, the City of Milan, and the City of Rho, who, like us, believed in the possibility of bringing ice sports back to Milan on a permanent basis,” emphasizes Andrea Gios, president of the Italian Ice Sports Federation.

And it is precisely the concept of the Games’ legacy that plays a central role in the project. “When we talk about the legacy of Milan-Cortina 2026, this is part of what we mean: ensuring that the investments and opportunities generated by the Games translate into infrastructure, activities, and new possibilities for today’s athletes and for future generations. The Fiera Ice Arena is a home for today’s movement, but above all, it aims to be a space in which to build tomorrow’s movement,” adds Gios.

The significance of the new Arena therefore goes beyond the mere availability of a facility. The goal is to create a place capable of bringing together elite-level competition, youth programs, women’s sports, sports initiation, and ice sports, gradually building an ever-expanding community around these disciplines.

The journey has already begun, and in the coming weeks, the Fiera Ice Arena will be the centerpiece of a packed schedule of events, starting with the return of top-tier hockey in front of the Milanese public. This event brings back to the city a sport with a rich history, one that can serve as a driving force for this new phase.

After years of waiting, Milan once again has a home for ice sports. A facility born from the collaboration between institutions and the sports world, focused not only on competitive sports but above all on the development of young people and building the future. A tangible legacy of Milan-Cortina 2026 destined to endure long after the Games.
