Jannik Sinner gave it a try. According to a report in *La Repubblica*, the South Tyrolean player tried to speed up his recovery by gradually increasing the intensity of his training and working toward a return to the court before the end of the season. The goal was to get back into competition after a difficult few months, but his knee once again called for caution. In the end, the hardest decision was made: to call it a season for 2026 and focus entirely on a comeback in 2027.

Sinner’s last match therefore remains the one on July 12, the Wimbledon final he won against Alexander Zverev. Since then, the South Tyrolean has not been able to return to the court. First came the problem with his right knee, then the postponement of his return in Beijing, followed by his withdrawal from Shanghai, and finally, the definitive end to the rest of the season.

The world No. 1 tried to speed things up a bit, but without wanting to take any risks. The physical issue, related to inflammation in his knee, requires a recovery and treatment plan that will allow him to start the new season in the best possible condition. His staff has therefore decided to take action now, so as to give Sinner all the time he needs before beginning his preparation for 2027.

This decision means sitting out the entire end of the season, including the ATP Finals in Turin, where Sinner has won the title for the past two years. This is a significant setback from a competitive standpoint as well, because Alexander Zverev can now take advantage of Sinner’s absence to try to claim the top spot in the world rankings.
