Volleyball in Shock: Former Setter Stefania Corna Dies at Age 35

The volleyball world is mourning the death of Stefania Corna, who passed away at just 35 years old after a long illness. She came up through the youth ranks at Foppapedretti Bergamo and, during the 2011–12 season, helped Giaveno earn promotion to Serie A1 before transferring to Pomì Casalmaggiore the following year. She later played for Montichiari and Scandicci, before embarking on her first overseas adventure with Kanti Schaffhausen in Switzerland.
In 2015, she returned to Italy to play for Maglie in Serie B1. It was an important two-year stint, culminating in a transfer to Cutrofiano, with whom she secured another promotion, this time to Serie A2. During her career, she also played for Carthage in Tunisia during the 2017–18 season and for CBL Costa Volpino, with whom she won the Serie B1 championship in 2022–23. Her last stint as a player was with Blu Volley Pesaro during the 2023–24 season, before she retired.
Corna had also played for the national youth team, winning two European junior gold medals with the Under-19 squad in 2006 and 2008 under head coach Marco Mencarelli. She also made her debut with the senior national team at the Montreux Volley Masters, a competition won that year by Japan. After retiring from competitive volleyball, Corna continued to nurture her passion for languages, becoming an English teacher.
The funeral will be held on Friday, October 9, at 10 a.m. at the Church of San Giorgio Martire in Boltiere, in the province of Bergamo, where family, friends, and the volleyball community can pay their final respects.
