Cesc Fabregas’s scathing remarks spark controversy: Moise Kean is caught in the middle

On the eve of the match against Roma, scheduled for Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the “Sinigaglia,” a controversy has erupted at Como between coach Cesc Fabregas and Roberto Mancini’s national team. During the pre-match press conference, in fact, the Catalan coach engaged in a heated exchange with the Italian national team camp, complaining about the handling of players called up to the national team and singling out, specifically, Como forward Moise Kean.
Fabregas certainly didn’t hide his frustration: “Kean played while injured,” he said, in no uncertain terms. “Even though he took a hit against Belgium, he played another ninety minutes: as a result, he aggravated his injury, and we won’t be able to count on him for another ten days. We need better communication with the clubs.”
These remarks, inevitably destined to cause a stir, prompted a swift response from the Italian national team staff. Specifically, the national team’s team doctor, Angelo De Carli, responded by rejecting the accusations made by the Como coach. “To monitor the condition of the players called up, the national team’s medical staff keeps the clubs constantly updated through frequent contact before, during, and after training camp,” he explained, highlighting the work carried out during the last international break.
The Azzurri team doctor then added a further clarification that sounds like a direct response to Fabregas: “This happened as usual during this break as well.” This back-and-forth thus reignites an issue that has always been very sensitive in modern soccer: the management of players between clubs and national teams. This time, however, the tone used by both sides suggests that the matter may not end with this exchange of statements.
