Olimpia Transfer Market: Poeta Explains Whether It’s Time to Take Action Yet

After the victory against Treviso at the Unipol Forum, Olimpia Milano head coach Peppe Poeta spoke at a press conference about the transfer market and any potential moves to improve the team.

Poeta took his time, explaining how important it is to understand the team’s true value: “Before changing anything or making moves, we all need to be on the same page. Then we can give this team a realistic assessment. We’ve played some good games and some bad ones. The key to everything will be performing as well as possible over the full 40 minutes and finding consistency. And we have to do this right away,” according to Pianetabasket.

“We need to run more; we’re missing a go-to guy, a leader—we knew that. So we need to pass the ball to each other; as a team, we’ll pull each other out of tight spots. After the Maccabi game, I said the process is slower than I expected, because when a player like Peters arrives—who’s been playing in one system for five years—it’s not easy to adapt. The same goes for the rookies and the point guard hierarchy. There are so many things to put together.”

“Cole hit a wall in Belgrade. That’s normal. Then you take some of the pressure off him and let him get back on track later. These are all processes—like Burnell’s, or my own in implementing a 12-man rotation, which I’d never done before. A series of things that, in 25 days, aren’t so automatic or a given. Some players click sooner and others later; the goal is to get everyone to click.”
