Milan: When Will Gabbia Return? His Condition After the Serious Injury

Bad news for Milan and Ruben Amorim, who risks losing defender Matteo Gabbia for an extended period. The Rossoneri center back was injured during the first half of the match against Sassuolo at San Siro, marking the resumption of the Serie A season.
Gabbia was forced to leave the game after just over a quarter of an hour: in the 16th minute, he remained on the ground after a defensive tackle and was unable to get back up due to the pain. He received immediate medical attention, was carried off the field on a stretcher, and then left the stadium on crutches. According to Sky, there are fears of a serious injury to his left thigh flexors: tests scheduled for Monday will be crucial in determining the extent of the problem. De Winter came on to replace him.
Initial reports do not inspire optimism: Gabbia could be sidelined for an extended period. Shortly afterward in the same match, Sassuolo defender Fedde Leysen also went down with an injury: he, too, was forced to leave the game due to muscle trouble.
The injury further complicates Amorim’s plans in a defensive unit already under pressure: Fikayo Tomori, who rejoined the squad after the summer transfer window closed, is now the first substitute, alongside young players Sankhoun Diawara and Vladimirov. The situation is all the more delicate when considering the role Gabbia plays within the Rossoneri locker room. Mario Gila himself, during his introduction this summer, had emphasized just how crucial his teammate had been to his integration: “He seems to me to be a very important leader within the team,” the Spaniard had stated.
