Beppe Bruscolotti’s comments are sure to spark debate. He analyzed Napoli’s current situation, focusing in particular on leadership within the Azzurri locker room: “Lukaku’s departure was unwelcome; he was the only charismatic figure at Napoli. Di Lorenzo is good on the field, but other than that, he’s not much.”

This assessment did not go unnoticed and prompted a reaction from the Napoli captain. Di Lorenzo decided to respond directly on social media, expressing his disappointment: “One thing is certain: I may not be much, but when I’m 75 and a former captain, I certainly won’t be lashing out at the Napoli locker room from the outside, knowing nothing about it and fueling pointless criticism. I remembered you differently from when we met at the centennial celebration.”

The reference is to the event organized this summer in Piazza del Plebiscito to celebrate the Neapolitan club’s 100th anniversary, an occasion on which the two had taken the stage together. Di Lorenzo’s response quickly went viral, sparking numerous reactions.

Yesterday afternoon, however, Bruscolotti issued a new statement, seeking to clarify his position and extend an olive branch to the Napoli captain: “I wanted to revisit some of my statements; I apologize to the captain if he took offense—it was not my intention to offend him personally. He has my full respect, and as always, forza Napoli.”
