Roma is irritated by Allegri’s accusations; a ruling from the league is expected

Massimiliano Allegri’s post-match outburst after Napoli-Roma irritated the Giallorossi club, which let its anger be known through sources in Trigoria. La Gazzetta dello Sport describes a club that is decidedly annoyed by the accusations made by the Tuscan coach in his outburst at the end of the match at the Maradona Stadium.
“Last year, they had the Champions League in the bag. Always them…,” said the Napoli coach, referring to certain refereeing decisions that allegedly influenced the race for Champions League qualification last season, when Allegri was coaching Milan.
For Roma, these are unacceptable remarks that have caused astonishment: the club is irritated but is not commenting at this time, awaiting decisions from the relevant authorities regarding the statements in question. Allegri will certainly be suspended following his ejection from the field, but he could face a longer ban than expected.
His outburst over the refereeing decisions came during an already very tense evening for the Napoli coach. Speaking to DAZN, Allegri addressed the red card he received after Roma’s goal that tied the game at 3-3: “I was sent off because I was keeping quiet. The fourth official called the referee over and had me sent off. I hadn’t done absolutely anything: it’s a shame, but next time I’ll stay on the bench.” Napoli, leading by two goals, saw two points slip away in a heart-stopping match, which featured an unexpected hero in Giallorossi defender Leonardo Balerdi, who scored a brace.
