Bayern: Kompany Leaves the Hospital; Cause of His Illness Revealed

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from the hospital, where he had been admitted since last Friday after collapsing and suffering seizures during the Bavarian team’s training session. The incident had shaken the team and sparked serious concern for the former Manchester City defender’s condition.
The coach, who had been battling a virus in the days leading up to the episode, will now spend a few days at home recovering. Bayern Munich general manager Max Eberl revealed the issue to the German media. “It’s an irritation of the meninges, which caused the episode. It’s an illness; it has nothing to do with the pressure we’re under. We’re glad he’ll make a full recovery,” assured the executive of the German champions.
According to Bavarian media reports, Kompany could return to coaching even before the international break in November.
The incident occurred on Friday, October 23, during a reserve team training session that the 40-year-old Belgian coach was observing. According to Bild, Kompany reportedly felt ill shortly before the start of the Under-23 team’s session, in a dramatic moment that shocked everyone present. In the days leading up to the incident, the coach had already missed the final training session and the press conference on the eve of the Champions League match against Arsenal due to a viral infection. Following the incident, the club issued a statement on social media explaining that Kompany would undergo thorough medical examinations at the hospital and that, until further notice, his coaching staff would take charge of training sessions and matches. On that occasion, Eberl emphasized: “Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority. At Bayern Munich, we will do everything possible to ensure he recovers quickly.”
