Juventus is back in a slump: after their weekend victory over Lecce, the Bianconeri were defeated 2-0 by Genoa at Marassi in their Serie A Matchday 9 game. Spalletti’s team suffered its second loss in the last three matches and remains in eighth place, 11 points behind league leaders Inter and Lazio.

It was a nightmare first half for Juventus, which conceded two goals in the opening half-hour: Ehizibue opened the scoring in the 12th minute thanks to a deflection off Cambiaso, and Baldanzi doubled the lead in the 28th minute by capitalizing on a serious mistake by Kalulu. In the second half, Spalletti made several substitutions, bringing on Woltemade and Zhegrova, but the Old Lady was unable to score to get back into the game. Boga, Kolo Muani, Bremer, and Koopmeiners—who hit the crossbar—all tried their luck, but to no avail; the Bianconeri continued to struggle offensively, and the score remained unchanged.

In Wednesday’s other match, Massimiliano Allegri’s Napoli secured an important victory, bouncing back after two consecutive games without a win. The Azzurri won 4-1 in Monza: after taking the lead through Hojlund, the Neapolitans were pegged back late in the first half by league top scorer Varela.

In the second half, Politano, Marin, and De Bruyne propelled the Campania-based team to victory, allowing them to tie Juventus at 14 points. Monza suffered their third loss in their last four matches and remain in 16th place.
