Olimpia Milano: A big name emerges as a potential solution to the crisis. But there’s a hurdle

The situation at Olimpia Milano is becoming increasingly delicate. The team’s European results are falling short of expectations, and the need to make moves in the transfer market has become one of the main topics of discussion within the red-and-white camp. The team led by Peppe Poeta is struggling to find consistency and, above all, seems to need greater quality in managing offensive possessions.
According to reports from La Repubblica, one of the players under consideration is Nicolas Laprovittola. The 36-year-old Argentine point guard would bring a wealth of experience and personality—qualities that could prove invaluable for a team seeking new stability. Olimpia Milano’s interest, however, has not yet turned into actual negotiations. The red-and-white club reportedly made an exploratory inquiry, but no concrete developments have followed. A deal that, at least for now, appears complicated, especially given the player’s contractual situation.
Laprovittola, in fact, returned to Joventut Badalona in the summer of 2026, after five seasons with Barcelona. His return to Catalonia was accompanied by the signing of a three-year contract, set to expire in 2029. This agreement makes it difficult to imagine an immediate departure, especially considering the central role the Argentine plays in the Spanish team’s tactical plan.
From a technical standpoint, however, his arrival in Milan would make perfect sense. Laprovittola is a player capable of creating opportunities off the dribble, reading opposing defenses, and setting up his teammates for the best scoring opportunities. An experienced playmaker, also gifted with notable scoring ability, he could provide Olimpia with the offensive solutions that have been sorely lacking in this difficult start to the season.
His career, after all, speaks for itself. Born in 1990, the Argentine point guard gained significant experience overseas as well, playing for the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA before becoming one of the leading figures in European basketball.
His breakthrough came during the 2018–19 season, while playing for Joventut Badalona, when he won the Liga Endesa MVP award thanks to an extraordinary season in which he averaged 17.1 points and 6.4 assists.
This was followed by stints with Real Madrid and Barcelona, two of the most prestigious clubs on the European scene. With the Blaugrana, he also won the Spanish league title in 2023, confirming himself as a player capable of making an impact at the highest levels.
Furthermore, his return to Joventut has shown that age has in no way diminished his abilities. In September, Laprovittola was the star of the Spanish Super Cup victory, leading Badalona to a win over Barcelona with a 31-point, 7-assist performance that also earned him the competition’s MVP award.
These impressive numbers have been confirmed in the first few weeks of the 2026–27 season as well. In the first five Liga Endesa games, the Argentine averaged 16.6 points, 4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in just 24.8 minutes of playing time, shooting 41.7% from the field and 90% from the free-throw line. His performance in the Basketball Champions League has also been strong, averaging 13.5 points and 4 assists in his first two games. These statistics demonstrate just how much of a difference Laprovittola is still capable of making.
