Como Receives the “Building Kindness in Sports” Award

Como continues to stand out not only for its athletic achievements but also for its social commitment. The Como-based club was in fact awarded the prestigious “Costruiamo Gentilezza nello Sport” prize, presented to President Mirwan Suwarso by Gaia Simonetti, a journalist, writer, and ambassador for the national “Costruiamo Gentilezza” project, as well as a representative of USSI Toscana.
The award, established in 2022, draws inspiration from the symbolic gesture of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who was among the first to offer support to a family forced to leave their country due to war. Since then, the award has made its way through the national sports scene, honoring more than forty athletes, executives, and clubs who have distinguished themselves for promoting human values, inclusion, and respect.
What makes this award even more meaningful is the direct involvement of young people: in fact, most of the nominations come from boys and girls who highlight positive stories and examples worthy of recognition. The symbol of the award is a special jersey designed by the children themselves and embellished with one of Nelson Mandela’s most famous quotes: “Sport has the power to change the world.”
These are values that Como has successfully transformed into concrete initiatives, both on and off the field, becoming a model for inclusion, sustainability, and community engagement. This commitment is now further affirmed by an award that recognizes not only results but, above all, the positive impact generated through sports.
