The loss to Juventus could have serious consequences for Massimiliano Allegri’s future. The 2-0 defeat at Allianz Stadium on Matchday 10 of Serie A has exacerbated an already complicated situation and reignited rumors about the possible dismissal of the Livorno-born coach. For Napoli, this marks their fourth loss in the first ten league matches—a record well below expectations for a team built with high ambitions.

The numbers make Allegri’s position even more precarious. The Azzurri have earned just 14 points in ten matches—exactly half as many as league-leading Lazio. They are already nine points behind fourth place, and their Champions League campaign isn’t going as well as hoped either. A difficult start that, following the loss to Juventus, inevitably calls the coach’s position into question.

The next two matches could prove decisive. Napoli faces a tough European away match against Porto before taking on Lazio in the league in the final match before the break. These are two crucial matches, not only to turn the season around but also to determine the coach’s fate.

Meanwhile, the first names are beginning to circulate as potential successors. At the top of the list is Thiago Motta, a candidate favored by De Laurentiis and already closely monitored by sporting director Giovanni Manna during his time at Juventus. Among the alternatives are Stefano Pioli and Sergio Conceição, considered coaches capable of restoring balance and stability to the team.

The possibility of Vincenzo Montella also remains on the table. The current head coach of Turkey, a native of Naples, would represent a solution with strong symbolic value, offering the chance to return to his hometown as a coach after never having worn the Azzurri jersey as a player.

For now, these are merely speculations, but the loss in Turin has increased the pressure on Allegri. The coming weeks will reveal whether the coach can turn things around or if Napoli will be forced to consider another change on the bench.
