Barcelona isn’t giving up on Alessandro Bastoni, who is assessing the “situation”

At Inter, the spotlight is also on Alessandro Bastoni, who has returned to a more peaceful atmosphere after a first half of 2026 marked by negative incidents and particularly difficult moments. The defender, who scored in the last derby lost by the Biscione, remains on Barcelona’s radar, as the club has never stopped closely monitoring him. The Blaugrana’s interest could turn into something concrete, but before making a decision, Bastoni would like to hear directly from Hansi Flick what his role would be in the Catalan club’s technical plans.
The Italian national team center back is happy in Milan and has a contract with the Nerazzurri through 2028, but the prospect of a stint in Spain is certainly appealing to him. For this reason, before entering into renewal talks with Inter, he would like to thoroughly assess Barcelona’s intentions.
The Catalans’ interest is not a recent development. As early as this past summer, Barcelona had knocked on Inter’s door, only to back off later: according to Diario Sport, Flick had shifted his focus to a player with different characteristics, also deeming the €70 million valuation set by Beppe Marotta excessive. At the end of September, however, the German coach once again asked his club to strengthen the defense, and according to rumors reported by TeamTalk, Bastoni is reportedly at the top of his wish list. In fact, Flick is reportedly not convinced by the idea of signing Virgil van Dijk—whose contract with Liverpool is expiring and who is available on a free transfer—and would prefer an investment geared toward the future.
In recent months, other suitors have also shown interest in the defender. José Mourinho’s Real Madrid had made a concrete offer, while Simone Inzaghi’s Al Hilal had sent him a substantial proposal from Saudi Arabia. At that time, agent Tullio Tinti explained to Sky: “My players and I usually honor our contracts; he still has two years left on his contract and is in love with Inter. Right now, he’s not thinking about moving to other clubs, but if there are interested clubs that satisfy both Inter and the player, we can sit down and talk. At the moment, there are no negotiations underway.” The club’s stance was even clearer, with Marotta emphasizing that “Bastoni is a talent” and “wants to stay.”
