Jannik Sinner: Carlos Alcaraz is getting more and more impatient

Jannik Sinner hasn’t played since July and won’t play again until next year, and the tour is feeling the absence of its former world No. 1. His main rival, Carlos Alcaraz, sent a message to the South Tyrolean from Paris, admitting that tennis isn’t the same without him.

“I’m glad to have Jannik around all the time, both at tournaments and during our time in the locker room,” the Spaniard explained at a press conference. “He’s the kind of player who pushes me to give my best every day, fueling my ambition and helping me stay focused on the specific areas I need to work on, both during matches and in training sessions.”

“The tour needs him back: the players and fans miss him. We really need a champion like Jannik,” the Spaniard concluded. Alcaraz’s words echo those of Sinner himself, who had sent a similar message to Carlos at Wimbledon when the Spaniard was forced to withdraw due to a wrist injury.

Sinner’s hiatus, due to right knee issues that emerged after his triumph at Wimbledon, has also affected the rankings. Alexander Zverev has in fact become the new world No. 1 for the first time in his career, following his victory in the round of 16 at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna against Tallon Griekspoor. The German brought an end to Sinner’s third reign at the top, which began on April 13 when he overtook Alcaraz.
