Cantù Mourns: Farewell to Carluccio Cattaneo

The Lombardy basketball community mourns the passing of Carluccio Cattaneo, known to everyone simply as Carlino. A man of sports and a great basketball enthusiast, he dedicated over 55 years of his life to the sport, holding various leadership positions and contributing to the growth of the basketball movement in the region.
Pallacanestro Cantù, the club where he served as referee coordinator from 2013 to 2026, honors his memory. The club expressed its condolences in an official statement, offering its support to the family during this time of grief. Cattaneo’s journey in the world of basketball began in 1969, when he founded ABC Cantù and became its first president. This commitment continued for decades, as he remained on the club’s board of directors until the 2000s.
At the same time, he held important positions within the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP). From 1972 to 1980, he served as a provincial councilor for the FIP, a role he subsequently held at the regional level from 1976 to 1996. His long and eventful career was always marked by professionalism, expertise, and a passion for the sport. These qualities were also recognized by CONI Como, which awarded him the Silver Star for Sporting Merit in 2019.
