Juventus Transfer Market: A New Trio of Names for the Summer

Juventus and Atlético Madrid are ready to resume negotiations. The connection between Turin and the Spanish capital could be reignited ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, with three names set to once again intertwine the fates of the two clubs: Jonathan David, Nico González, and Alexander Sorloth. These are different cases, but they’re linked by a transfer relationship that has already led to several discussions in recent windows without reaching a definitive solution.
According to Tuttosport, the first sticking point concerns the future of David, who joined Atlético Madrid in the final days of August on a free loan with an option to buy set at 25 million euros, payable in three installments. The Canadian forward’s Spanish adventure got off to the best possible start, with three consecutive goals across La Liga and the Champions League. After the international break, however, his performance and playing time in Diego Simeone’s rotation have gradually declined. Currently, David is primarily a substitute.
Atlético Madrid does not seem willing to let the player go, but is aiming to secure more favorable financial terms than those agreed upon in the summer. The Colchoneros could therefore ask for a discount on the agreed-upon 25 million, capitalizing on the striker’s situation and the fact that it’s hard to imagine him returning to Juventus.
The other key figure in these potential transfer developments is Nico Gonzalez. The Argentine already played for Atlético Madrid last season, earning Simeone’s respect but failing to secure a permanent contract. The Spanish club has not given up on the idea of bringing him back to Madrid, but Juventus’s financial demands had prevented an agreement from being reached. In the meantime, however, the situation has changed: Gonzalez returned to Continassa in mid-August and has impressed Luciano Spalletti, who appreciates his qualities and has even pushed for a contract extension.
His stay in Turin, however, has not dampened the Colchoneros’ interest, and they are ready to make another push in the coming months. The negotiations could reignite discussions between the two clubs regarding their respective valuations. Alexander Sorloth, the Norwegian center forward from Atlético Madrid whom Juventus had been tracking for a long time last summer, could also be back on the table. The player was considered a particularly good fit for Spalletti’s needs, as he was looking for a forward with different characteristics than those already on the roster. However, Juventus’ interest in Sorloth had become intertwined with Atlético’s interest in Nico González, and the parties were unable to reach an agreement on the terms and financial valuations.
