Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini will play the women’s doubles final at the WTA 1000 in Miami.

The two Azzurri got the pass to the final act practically without a blow, since the semifinal staged on the night between Friday and Saturday against Elise Mertens and Shuai Zhang ended after just three games, on the score of 2-1 for the Azzurri, due to an injury occurred to the Belgian, who first called the medical staff and then decided not to continue the match, granting the victory by withdrawal.

The opponents of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini will be the Czech Katerina Siniakova and the U.S. Taylor Townsend, who instead got the better of them, at the super tie-break, against the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and the Brazilian Luisa Stefani: 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 the score in favor of the pair that will contend, in the match scheduled for Sunday, March 29, not before 5:30 p.m. Italian time, the title to the two Olympic champions, looking for their tenth affirmation as a couple.

Especially for Paolini, it is an important opportunity to regain her smile, after a beginning of 2026 that has been anything but happy from the point of view of results in singles: the champion from Bagni di Lucca is still in the WTA Top 10, in seventh place, although she will drop to eighth position at the next update and, in this 2026, she has not yet won more than two consecutive matches in singles. Even in Miami, the adventure ended early, in the third round, at the expense of Jelena Ostapenko.

Paolini, by the way, will find again precisely Taylor Townsend on the other side of the net after defeating her in the second round of the WTA 1000 in Florida: a match with two faces, ended 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in one hour and forty-five minutes. On Sunday, another great opportunity to confirm herself among the queens of doubles together with the eternal Sara Errani: the first success of 2026 is on the horizon, but the two Azzurre will have to show maximum concentration to reach the goal.
